Staff Accountant

SDK is seeking a full‑time Staff Accountant to support the accounting team in managing the daily financial operations of its portfolio. Key responsibilities include maintaining the general ledger, processing accounts receivable, performing bank reconciliations, and preparing financial reports for both residential and commercial properties.

This position is based in Ridgewood, NJ.

About the Position

As the Staff Accountant, you will…

  • Prepare and post routine journal entries, including reclasses, and monthly adjustments.
  • Assist with maintaining the general ledger for the portfolio.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, reporting and filings.
  • Prepare payment batches and assist with vendor statement reconciliations as needed.
  • Record resident receipts and assist with monitoring outstanding balances.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for operating and security deposit accounts.
  • Assist with reconciling balance sheet accounts and investigating variances.
  • Assist in preparing monthly property financial reports.
  • Compile supporting schedules for income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Help gather documentation for audits, tax filings, and lender reporting.
  • Assist with CAM (Common Area Maintenance) and other recoverable expense tracking.
  • Enter and maintain data in property management/accounting systems.
  • Help ensure data accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
  • Support the team with ad hoc projects and assignments; complete work proactively.

About Your Professional Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying GAAP standards to financial reporting and analysis.
  • 1-3 years of related experience; real estate experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in reconciliations and multi‑entity reporting.
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and operational accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Upholds high standards of confidentiality and exercises discretion with sensitive information.
  • Naturally curious, proactive and solutions-oriented.
  • Must demonstrate a consistent, reliable professional history supported by outstanding references.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with RealPage suite or similar property management accounting software is a plus.
  • Must be able to work with any employer in the US without any restrictions whatsoever.

The annualized gross base range for this position is $70,000 – $75,000 bonus eligibility. The actual compensation will be based on factors unique to the candidate, including direct years of experience and depth of knowledge.
