Staff Accountant

Position: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

In Office: Monday - Thursday; Remote: Friday


Position Summary


Opportunity Austin (OA) is one of the leading economic development organizations in the United States, dedicated to promoting prosperity in the five-county Greater Austin region. We are seeking an experienced staff accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in accounting and bookkeeping, with experience handling all financial aspects of a company. The accountant will be responsible for managing the financial records and accounts of the company, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.


Essential Functions


  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including overseeing accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
  • Process payroll and ensure accurate deductions, withholdings, and timely payments to employees.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close process, including reconciling all accounts and preparing journal entries.
  • Assist with the preparation of compliance reports and other financial reports as needed.
  • Payroll processing, EFTPS tax payments and state tax payments
  • Supporting annual audit due diligence
  • Quarterly and annual payroll reports
  • Benefits (401k, FSA, PTO) record keeping and reconciliation
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.


Position Qualifications


  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience as a bookkeeper/accountant or in a similar role.
  • Strong QuickBooks experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and tax laws is a plus.
  • Experience with Bill.com, Expensify and Paylocity a plus.
