Staff Accountant

The Job:

  • Under direction of the Assistant Controller, provide support to areas and personnel throughout the department as requested to effect major systemic and process improvements and change initiatives
  • Departmental Performance and Deliverables
    • Support high sense of urgency with all departmental personnel
    • Help ensure all departmental personnel are aware of and adhering to all stipulated reporting deadlines
  • Departmental Policies and Procedures
    • Responsible for the enforcement of company policy and procedure for departmental personnel
    • Responsible for maintaining and improving the form and content of all company policy and procedure in all areas of responsibility

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
    • Support accuracy in company general reporting and analysis
    • Support maintaining and improving the form and content of assigned reporting
      • Ensure company reporting is presented in a format that is easily understood and readily usable by targeted constituencies
    • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of information in assigned reporting
    • Support the maintenance and improvement of processes used to generate and distribute assigned reporting Ensure reporting is generated and distributed with the most efficient use of company resources

  • Internal Controls and Auditing
    • Assist in managing and protecting the assets of the company
    • Assist in maintaining and improving the form and content of General Accounting internal controls
    • Assist in maintaining and improving all audit processes and procedures related areas of responsibility

  • Daily, weekly, monthly and annual/other miscellaneous tasks as required. Example tasks include:
    • Daily responsibilities:
      • Daily Cash report preparation with oversight by the General Accounting Manager
      • Oversee the Subcontractor Approval Process for new subcontractors and erecting crews by following Cleary guidelines, as well as applicable State and other governmental guidelines
        • Support work of the Accounting Assistant in all tasks and matters related to Subcontractor compliance
        • Serve as primary backup to Accounting Assistant
        • Oversee Personal Property Tax, Secretary of State, and Wyoming out of state subcontractor job registration filings
      • Service Contract administration for Plants and Branches relating to waste removal, snow plowing and lawn maintenance
      • Field department questions or problems as well as those from branches
      • Assist other departments and answer questions

    • Weekly responsibilities:
      • Review and approve new subcontractor and sub-crew reference rider contracts
      • Function as the backup to the Accounting Assistant
      • Assist A/P Staff as required with utility review and processing, invoice coding, statement reconciliations, etc.
      • Region Manager Early Report preparation and distribution
      • Branch Early Report preparation and upload to OnBase
      • Update Projected & Actual Sales and Production numbers

    • Monthly responsibilities:
      • Fixed Asset maintenance and reconciliation, including related accruals and journal entries
      • Partnership Financial Statement preparation and distribution with oversight from the General Accounting Manager and President’s Executive Assistant
      • Region Manager Month End Report preparation and distribution
      • Branch Month End Report preparation and upload to OnBase
      • Account reconciliations as assigned
      • Miscellaneous duties
        • Assist in periodic inventory process
        • Support accounts payable processing of subcontractor and equipment rental invoicing
        • Various analysis and projects as directed by the Controller, Assistant Controller, and/or CFO

    • Annual/other miscellaneous tasks Participate in and support preparation of the year-end financial reconciliation, closings, and reporting

  • Other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Two-year college degree, preferably in accounting, finance or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a financial analyst or closely related position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to grow in the organization
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Working knowledge of federal and state reporting requirements
  • Working knowledge of accounting, budgeting and cost control principles
  • Computer literacy, Excel and Word and email proficiency minimally
  • Ability to analyze data and present to users of varying knowledge and skill sets
  • Work ethic that supports the stated company values
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to all levels within a company
