Job Description – Staff Nurse
Position Title: Staff Nurse
Department: Nursing
Reports To: Nursing In-Charge / Head of Nursing Services
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive bedside nursing care to patients as per medical instructions.
- Monitor and record vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress.
- Administer medications, injections, and IV infusions accurately and on time.
- Assist doctors during rounds, examinations, and procedures.
- Maintain patient hygiene, comfort, and mobility.
2. Clinical Duties
- Prepare and maintain sterile equipment and supplies.
- Carry out wound dressing, catheterization, suctioning, and other nursing procedures.
- Ensure safe collection and dispatch of lab samples.
- Handle emergency situations promptly (CPR, first aid, code blue, etc.).
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing notes, reports, and patient records.
- Document all treatments, medications, and observations as per hospital policy.
- Report any unusual symptoms, incidents, or patient concerns to the doctor/ANS.
4. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow universal precautions and hospital infection control protocols.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the ward/unit.
5. Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and families regarding care plans, medication, diet, and discharge instructions.
- Provide emotional support and counseling where required.
6. Teamwork & Professional Conduct
- Coordinate with doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Guide and supervise junior nurses, nursing students, and attendants.
- Uphold hospital policies, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: GNM / B.Sc. Nursing / M.Sc. Nursing (with valid Nursing Council Registration).
- Experience: [0–2 years for fresher / 2–5 years for experienced, as per requirement].
- Skills:
- Strong clinical and technical nursing skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and in rotational shifts.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
