Job Title: Staff Nurse – Operation Theatre (OT)

Reporting To: Nursing Superintendent / OT In-charge

Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality perioperative nursing care to mothers undergoing obstetric, gynecological, and related surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and adherence to hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Care:
- Prepare OT with sterile instruments, consumables, equipment, and supplies.
- Verify patient details, consent, pre-operative checklist, and surgical site marking.
- Assist in positioning patients appropriately for procedures.
Intra-Operative Care:
- Assist surgeons and anesthetists during obstetric and gynecological surgeries (e.g., C-section, hysterectomy, D&C, laparoscopic procedures).
- Handle surgical instruments, sponges, and sutures efficiently.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control protocols throughout the procedure.
- Monitor patient’s vitals (as required) and coordinate with anesthesia team.
Post-Operative Care:
- Provide immediate post-operative care and assist in patient transfer to recovery room/ICU.
- Monitor patient condition and report changes promptly to doctors.
- Document intraoperative details accurately in patient records.
General Duties:
- Maintain OT sterility, cleanliness, and stock levels.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital policies.
- Adhere to hospital protocols, NABH/JCI standards, and patient safety guidelines.
- Participate in emergency obstetric procedures and on-call duties as required.
- Educate patients and attendants about post-operative care.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing / M.Sc. Nursing with valid Nursing Registration.
- Minimum 1–3 years of OT experience, preferably in maternity/gynecology.
- Knowledge of obstetric and gynecological surgical procedures.
- Strong skills in infection control, emergency management, and patient care.
- Good communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
