The Steel Fabricator will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and fitting structural steel components as per engineering drawings and project specifications. The role requires strong knowledge of structural fit-up, alignment, and finishing processes, along with hands-on experience using fabrication tools and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and understand structural drawings and fabrication details to carry out accurate fit-up and assembly.
- Perform structural fit-up of beams, columns, bracings, and other steel components as per tolerance and alignment standards.
- Carry out gas cutting, grinding, and drilling operations using core cutting and magnetic drilling machines.
- Ensure proper alignment of structures before welding or bolting.
- Execute bolt tightening and torquing as per specified torque values and procedures.
- Check dimensions and tolerances using measuring tools and ensure compliance with drawing requirements.
- Maintain safety, quality, and housekeeping standards in the workshop or site area.
- Collaborate with welders, fitters, and supervisors to achieve project targets and deadlines.
- Report material shortages, drawing discrepancies, and fabrication issues to the supervisor.
Qualitfications and Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in steel fabrication and structural fit-up.
- Ability to read and interpret structural and fabrication drawings accurately.
- Skilled in gas cutting, grinding, core drilling, and magnetic drilling operations.
- Knowledge of structural alignment, fit-up tolerances, and bolt torquing techniques.
- Familiarity with basic fabrication tools, measuring instruments, and power tools.
- Understanding of safety standards related to fabrication and site work.
- Physically fit and able to handle heavy materials and equipment safely.
