Summer Dance & Cheer Camp Counselor

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Family Programming Director, the Summer Camp Dance & Cheer Counselor is responsible for leading camp rotations in a specialized sport of cheer or dance—for children ages six to twelve years old. The summer camp Cheer & Dance Counselors will ensure a safe, clean, and engaging environment, while providing age-appropriate instruction, adhering to the department's established guidelines and standards, and promoting fun and skill development within their area of expertise.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Organize campers ages three to fifteen years old for specialized cheer and dance performances, skills, and learning.
  • Provide a safe, clean environment by maintaining sports areas, including organizing equipment, wiping down surfaces, and ensuring all equipment is properly stored after use.
  • Supervise campers at all times during sports activities, and addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate sports activities such as drills, and games to foster skill development and fun.
  • Greet parents and children warmly; and encourage camper participation with enthusiasm.
  • Engage with campers during sports sessions, ensuring all children are actively participating, with extra attention to those needing guidance.
  • Safely transfer campers to and from sports activities within the Club and offsite locations when applicable.
  • Arrive punctually for all scheduled activities and ensure all equipment is set up and stored correctly before and after use.
  • Represent the camp and club professionally through positive interactions, appropriate attire, and timely responses.
  • Communicate with the Family Programming Director and parents in a timely and professional manner regarding camper progress or any issues.
  • Actively participate in camp events, programs, staff meetings, training sessions, and marketing efforts related to the camp.

SPORTS OVERSIGHT (if applicable)

  • Organize and lead camp activities for campers ages three to fifteen, including drills, games, and competitions tailored to various skill levels.
  • Teach specific cheer and dance fundamentals and rules in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
  • Promote a positive learning environment encouraging skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment of the sport.
  • Monitor camper safety addressing hazards promptly and enforcing safety guidelines.
  • Provide constructive feedback to help campers improve their skills and confidence.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of planned activities, ensuring all equipment is stored properly.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate timely and follow up as appropriate.
  • Active participation in required events, programs, meetings, and trainings.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, as job may require day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with children in a childcare, babysitting, camp, coaching, or instructional setting.
  • Competitive playing experience at the high school or collegiate level in cheer or dance.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals, techniques, and rules of the sport(s).
  • CPR and first aid certification required.
  • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service attitude.
  • Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, and willing to acquire new skills.
  • Well-organized and detail oriented.

  • Must frequently move 10 pounds and often up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
