Superintendent – Job Overview

The superintendent oversees and manages field operations for a site(s) concrete construction project, either personally or using a crew. This role ensures work is completed on time, within budget, and according to quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include scheduling, resource coordination, supervising and guiding crews, and maintaining compliance with company policies and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities (Summary)

  • Plan & Schedule:
    • Maintain a 4-week look-ahead; coordinate manpower, equipment, and material needs.
  • Resource Management:
    • Order materials and rebar in advance; schedule concrete, pumps, and finishers.
  • Crew Oversight:
    • Communicate daily plans; ensure tools, materials, and safety supplies are available.
  • Documentation:
    • Ensure completion and accuracy of daily reports, labor budgets, timesheets, and other required forms. The superintendent may delegate preparation to a foreman; however, it is the superintendent’s responsibility to review and oversee all documentation to confirm accuracy and compliance.
  • Safety:
    • Conduct site safety walks, enforce safe work practices, and report safety incidents to the Safety Officer immediately.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect work for accuracy, alignment, and compliance with plans.
  • Coordination:
    • Attend weekly GC meetings and maintain strong communication with stakeholders. Coordinate closely with the general contractor and other trades on-site to align schedules, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless execution of work.
    • Be present at all concrete pours for projects under your supervision to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Inventory & Policy:
    • Manage tool inventory daily and enforce work schedules and company policies.
  • Other Duties: Perform all other duties as assigned.
