Supervisor Sales Tax and Capital

About the Role

The Supervisor of Tax is responsible for planning and managing all sales and use tax related reporting and compliance within the Fleet Farm Consolidated Group. This includes monthly compliance reporting, reconciliation of accounts, management of audits for sales and use tax and fuel tax, maintenance related to tax rates in our systems, coordination with internal data integrity teams to ensure correct taxability of retail items, research on matters pertaining to various jurisdictions law and coordination with any public accounting and legal firms as necessary.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and complete the monthly preparation and reconciliation process and timely filing of all sales and use tax and other tax compliance.
  • Determine proper taxability of new inventory items and applicability of sales tax exemptions, working closely with the data integrity team.
  • Review and provide guidance on proper use tax applicability on supplier invoices to the AP teams.
  • Lead and manage all correspondence received and audits conducted by any state or local taxing jurisdiction.
  • Coordinate with outside accounting firms and other tax related consultants as needed.
  • Manage and maintain accuracy and completeness of all tax related accounts and reserves in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Internal Revenue Codes and Regulations. This includes preparation and oversight of all journal entries, account reconciliations and ad hoc analyses.
  • Lead, train and mentor tax team members assisting with tax compliance.
  • Oversee and document any accounting policies and procedures related to the tax area, including maintaining an effective system of internal control for all aspects of tax.
  • Provide a high level of service to internal customers as well as external partners.

What You Bring

  • An Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university or equivalent years of experience required.
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience, required.
  • CPA certification, preferred.
  • Public accounting experience, preferred.
  • Experience specific to sales and use tax area including research and compliance.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with an aptitude for problem solving and process improvement.
  • Ability to establish sound processes and maintain an effective system of internal control.
  • Functions at a high level when working independently or in a group.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible, organized and able to work accurately under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Exceptionally strong computer skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) with previous exposure to ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
