<Job Summary>
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Surgery Coordinator to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for surgical patients, ensuring seamless coordination of pre-operative preparations, documentation, and post-operative follow-up. <Responsibilities>
- Coordinate surgical schedules by managing appointments, operating room bookings, and patient flow to ensure timely procedures
- Ensure all necessary medical clearance and H&P are obtained and tracked.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance authorization and pre-authorization processes, including Medicare and other third-party payers
- Review and prepare patient documentation, including medical histories, consent forms, and care plans, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks to update patient records accurately and efficiently
- Assist with medical coding tasks such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding for billing purposes
- Communicate effectively with patients via phone and in person, providing excellent customer service while managing inquiries about procedures and appointments
- Support clinical staff by handling medical administrative support tasks like filing medical records, verifying insurance benefits, and managing clinic supplies
<Requirements>
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with familiarity in surgical coordination or clinic management
- Strong knowledge of EMR systems such as Eclinicalworks, Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or similar platforms.
- Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and medical billing procedures
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and multi-line phone systems
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively
- Prior experience with insurance verification, intake procedures, and documentation review is preferred
- Strong communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and typing speed of at least 10 key digits per second
