Surgical Specialist II - Surgical Oncology IMG - Vineland

MAJOR FUNCTION:

Schedule surgeries/procedures/equipment/special needs for surgeons as assigned. Provides back up as Patient Service Representatives as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

• High school graduate or equivalent with knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Minimum of two years of experience with surgical practice, front desk and/or clinical required.
• Previous surgical scheduling preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

• N/A

Knowledge& Skills:

• Computer skills are required.
• Knowledge of medical terms.

Position Responsibilities

• Ensures case & scheduling information is appropriately communicated to all relevant

parties.

• Enters scheduling information into systems.
• Communicates with hospital OR staff: special requests from surgeons' office; special

equipment requirements; pending specialty cases. Obtains authorizations for surgeries

and notifies appropriate depts.

• Collects co-pays and deductibles as needed and according to established policies.
• Liaison with material management and hospital OR staff regarding surgery requirements

for case.

• Communicates with P.A.T. staff regarding patients with special needs (e.g., interpreter,

latex allergy)

• Communicates with admissions department for change in patients' status requirements.
• Prepares OR schedule for physicians. Prints schedules for designated department areas.
• Tracks number of surgical cases on a monthly basis by physician and location.
• Provide backup coverage for Patient Service Representatives to:
• Greet, register, schedule and provide general information to patients and/or their

families.

• Ensure that insurance information is verified and co-pays are collected.
• May be required to obtain precertification’s and authorizations for procedures as

necessary

• Answer incoming calls and triage and schedule patient appointments according

to the established protocols.

• Ensures a high level of customer service by providing patient confidentiality and

care at all times.

• Provides clerical support as directed by Director or Practice Manager.
