Job Title: Swimming Pool Technician
Position Summary:
The Swimming Pool Technician is responsible for the on-site maintenance, repair, and servicing of swimming pools and spas. This role ensures pools are chemically balanced, mechanically operational, aesthetically clean, and safe for clients. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical skills and a commitment to quality.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Routine Maintenance & Cleaning:
- Perform weekly or bi-weekly scheduled maintenance visits to client locations.
- Skim, brush, and vacuum pools to remove debris.
- Empty skimmer and pump baskets.
- Clean pool tiles, decks, and surrounding areas as needed.
- Backwash or clean pool filters (DE, sand, cartridge).
2. Water Chemistry & Testing:
- Test and analyze pool water chemistry using test strips, liquid kits, or digital testers.
- Adjust chemical levels (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer, calcium hardness) to meet safe and optimal standards.
- Add necessary chemicals and sanitizers safely and accurately.
- Identify and resolve water clarity issues (cloudiness, algae blooms, staining).
3. Equipment Inspection, Repair & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct visual and operational inspections of pool equipment: pumps, motors, filters, heaters, chlorinators, automatic cleaners, control systems, and lights.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
- Perform minor to moderate repairs on-site (e.g., replacing seals, gaskets, valves, timers, switches, piping).
- Identify major repair needs and communicate recommendations to the service manager and client.
4. Customer Service & Communication:
- Interact professionally with clients, addressing questions and concerns.
- Clearly explain work performed, chemical adjustments, and any necessary future repairs.
- Maintain detailed service records for each client visit using a mobile app or paperwork.
- Provide exceptional service to build trust and ensure customer satisfaction.
5. Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols for handling chemicals, electrical components, and equipment.
- Operate company vehicle safely and maintain a clean driving record.
- Ensure all work complies with local health and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle and inventory.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience: 1+ years of experience as a pool technician or in a similar maintenance/repair role (HVAC, plumbing, electrical experience is a plus).
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude. Understanding of hydraulic systems, basic plumbing, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Chemical Knowledge: Solid understanding of pool water chemistry and safe chemical handling.
- Physical Ability: Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, working outdoors in various weather conditions, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean record. CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or equivalent certification is a strong plus (or willingness to obtain within first 90 days).
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, time management, and customer service skills. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automated pool systems (Jandy, Pentair, Hayward), saltwater chlorine generators, and variable-speed pumps.
- Basic computer/tablet skills for digital work orders and inventory.
