Position Summary:
Responsible for overall design, implementation, and maintenance of complex IT systems, including hardware and software. The design would include interfacing with the internet, firewalls, servers, network, storage, cloud, and the security that allows the infrastructure to function. This may include managing day-to-day operations within the Data Center Operations (DCO) team. This supports the academic, clinical, and research missions of UTHealth.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Plans, designs, and architects the infrastructure and platforms related to the DCO team, including project and strategic planning.
2. Designs systems to meet specific needs of the customer and UTHealth.
3. Responsible for ensuring that system development follows industry standards.
4. Assists in evaluating, recommending, and supporting the server, storage, cloud and data center needs that are managed by UTHealth.
5. Works closely within the DCO team, DCO management and other IT groups in reviewing, implementing and designing systems that align with the strategic goals of Information Technology (IT) and UTHealth.
6. Troubleshoots complex problems within the DCO and IT environments.
7. Works with DCO leadership to develop policies for standardizing and implementing IT system solutions.
8. Leads and presents technical briefings to the DCO team and other IT groups as needed.
9. Maintains an understanding of new developments in hardware and software technology. Promotes new application and new technologies as appropriate to enhance the mission of UT Health.
10. Attends technical briefings and conferences as needed.
11. May manage Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Proven experience in systems development and architecture. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. A solid understanding of system design life cycle (SLDC) methodologies. Excellent communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communications and customer service skills.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience:
Four (4) years of related experience in a similar environment.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
