Tax Preparer / Staff Accountant

Job Description

Alcala CPA PLLC is seeking a Tax Preparer / Staff Accountant to join our growing CPA firm in El Paso, Texas. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, and experienced in preparing tax returns and handling accounting work for small business and individual clients.

This role is ideal for someone who can work independently, communicate professionally with clients and team members, and help us deliver accurate, timely service during tax season and throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Prepare individual and business tax returns accurately and on time
• Review client financial information and supporting documents
• Perform bookkeeping and accounting work for business clients
• Prepare adjusting journal entries and account reconciliations
• Assist with monthly and year-end closing work
• Communicate with clients regarding missing information, tax documents, and follow-up items
• Help identify tax issues, notices, and planning opportunities
• Support the firm with other accounting and tax-related projects as needed

Qualifications

• Experience preparing individual and business tax returns
• Strong knowledge of tax and accounting principles
• Experience with bookkeeping and financial statement preparation preferred
• CPA, EA, or accounting degree preferred, but not required
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage deadlines and work efficiently during busy seasons
• Professional communication skills
• Experience working in a CPA firm or tax office preferred

Preferred Experience

• 2+ years of experience in tax preparation and accounting
• Experience with small business clients
• Familiarity with tax software and accounting software such as QuickBooks
