Position Overview
The Technical Office Manager is responsible for managing all technical and engineering activities within the construction project. This role ensures that structural and architectural designs are translated into precise, coordinated, and approved construction documents. The Technical Office Manager leads the technical team in preparing shop drawings, material submittals, RFIs while ensuring full compliance with project specifications, contract documents, and construction codes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
- Manage and supervise technical office engineers and BIM team.
- Review and approve structural/architectural shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built documents.
- Ensure compliance with design requirements, construction codes, and contractual obligations.
- Verify structural calculations, load analysis, and connection details.
- Validate architectural layouts, finishes, and coordination with MEP and façade works.
2. Coordination & Communication
- Serve as the main technical interface between site teams, consultants, subcontractors, and the client.
- Raise and follow up on RFIs, technical queries, and design discrepancies until resolution.
- Coordinate technical issues with procurement, planning, QA/QC, and site supervisors.
- Support site execution by providing timely technical clarifications and solutions.
- Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates on technical deliverables.
3. Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Oversee preparation and submission of all technical documentation:
- Shop drawings
- Material submittals
- Technical data sheets
- Coordination drawings
- As-built drawings
- Implement document control procedures to ensure the latest revisions are used on site.
- Ensure all submissions meet consultant and client requirements and are delivered within the required timeframes.
- Review subcontractor technical submissions for accuracy and compliance.
4. Project Planning & Support
- Evaluate changes, variations, and claims from a technical perspective.
- Perform value engineering studies to optimize cost, time, and quality.
- Ensure that technical activities align with project milestones and critical paths.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering,
- 8–15 years of technical office experience in building construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, codes, and industry standards (e.g. ACI, AISC, BS, ASTM, IBC).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and engineering software (ETABS, SAFE, STAAD for structural roles).
- Experience with large-scale construction projects preferred.
