California Cultured is here to bring the joy back to eating chocolate by making it sustainable, safe and healthy. We are developing plant cell culture technology to make better chocolate for the world.

California Cultured is looking to hire a full-time Laboratory Technician to contribute to plant cell culture processes from seed to harvest. The ideal candidate will have expertise in aseptic technique and a working understanding of cell culture in lab- and large-scale bioreactors/fermentors. The position’s main responsibilities are bioreactor preparation, assembly and tear down, monitoring and sampling cell culture, and medium preparation. The preferred candidate will have hands-on experience running cell culture processes. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player willing to jump in wherever needed, and someone excited to work independently in a fast-paced setting. This candidate will report to our Bioprocessing Engineer Lead and work closely with other technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bioreactor setup, maintenance and operation, including preparing assemblies and components for various experimental setups
  • Aseptic technique and sterile liquid handling
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation
  • Accurate sample preparation and processing
  • Adherence to project goals, protocols and SOPs
  • Regular communication with adjacent teams and supervisors
  • Follow all instructed safety precautions and regulations
  • Ownership of assigned work tasks including general lab support duties and cleaning
  • Occasional cross-training and backup duties

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or Associate's degree in a relevant scientific field with 1+ year equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience in a laboratory setting, including hands-on expertise with lab equipment, techniques, and documentation.
  • Mechanical aptitude to run and troubleshoot lab-scale bioreactors/fermentors including setup, sampling, tear down is preferred - Training will be provided
  • Demonstrated understanding of biotech and cell culture techniques
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling clear and collaborative interactions with team members and scientists.
  • Must be able to transport fragile lab equipment/items up to 25 pounds of weight

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
