The Smoke Management System Technician is responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining smoke control and ventilation systems in compliance with fire and life-safety standards. The role includes assembling mechanical components, routing ducts and cables, installing fans and dampers, and ensuring proper system operation after completion.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation of Smoke Management Equipment
- Install smoke extraction fans, stairwell pressurization fans, jet fans, and mechanical ventilation units.
- Install motorized dampers, fire dampers, and smoke dampers.
- Route and fix ductwork, supports, hangers, and flexible connections as per drawings.
- Install control panels, sensors, wiring, and fire-rated cabling required for smoke control systems.
2. Testing, Balancing & Commissioning Support
- Support functional testing of fans, dampers, smoke detectors, and control systems.
- Assist in airflow measurement, pressure tests, and checking fan rotation/operation.
- Report faults, on-conformities, and help troubleshoot installation issues.
3. Compliance & Documentation
- Follow installation guidelines as per approved shop drawings, method statements, and DCD codes.
- Maintain records of installed components, inspection requests (IRs), and daily progress reports.
- Ensure all components used meet project specifications.
4. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with HVAC technicians, electricians, fire safety engineers, and civil teams to avoid site clashes.
- Communicate installation progress and technical issues to the site engineer or supervisor.
- Attend toolbox meetings and follow instructions from supervisors.
5. Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all fire safety, electrical safety, and site safety protocols.
- Use PPE and follow permit-to-work, lock-out/tag-out, and confined-space procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards.
Qualification & Experience:
- Technical Diploma / ITI in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire & Safety Technology.
- Min 2–4 years of experience in HVAC/Fire Fighting mechanical installation.
- Knowledge of smoke control and ventilation system installation.
- Familiarity with ducts, fans, dampers, BMS/FACP connections, and fire-rated materials.
- Ability to read basic mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with power tools and installation tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Experience on high-rise buildings, malls, tunnels, or industrial projects is advantageous.
