SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a building and/or library programming in multiple locations with an emphasis on teamwork, leadership, and the customer experience. This position is also responsible for supervision of professional and support staff. This position may perform other related functions as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-
Leads in creating an environment where customers have the best possible library experience.

Assists with development, improvement and implementation of policies, procedures, workflows, and organizational goals and objectives.

Promotes and maintains high standard of customer service, projecting and promoting a positive image of the library and staff.

Assists the public with reference, readers’ advisory, circulation, and information services.
-
Interprets library and City policies and procedures to the staff and public; investigates complaints and makes recommendations for resolution.

Communicates with Library Director to develop and implement overall system goals and services.
-
Builds and facilitates relationships with other City departments and area organizations.
-
Facilitates and participates as an active member on the Library Leadership and other cross-functional teams.

Acts as a library and City ambassador at community events.
-
Coordinates and supports library programming throughout the system.
-
Coaches, supervises, evaluates, and recommends the hiring of library staff.

Serves as “Librarian in Charge” when the Library Director is absent.

Provides leadership and direction to staff.
-
Communicates with staff at all library locations regarding policies and programs.
-
Plans work flow and staff schedules.
-
Participates in the preparation and administration of a library departmental budget.
-
Stays informed of professional developments and trends.
-
Attends and participates in professional meetings, conferences, and seminars.
-
Participates in public relations activities publicizing library events and materials, through social and traditional media.
-
Prepares and submits various reports to the Library Advisory Board.

Represents the library at City meetings in the absence of the Library Director.
When assigned to Systems:-
Oversees daily operations of library systems as well as assists in the development of innovative solutions.

Responsible for library technology and systems such as the integrated library system, PC and print management system, room reservations system, self-checkout stations, and automated return and materials handling systems for both library branches and outreach needs.

Keeps the library up to date with public and internal facing technology and technology trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible library supervisory experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bilingual preferred. Prior experience working with community organizations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT-
Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License

Must be able to work a combination of morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light to medium weight (10-50 pounds). May also involve the pushing and/or pulling of objects or materials up to one-hundred (100) pounds between. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require visual/sound perception/discrimination and oral communications ability.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
