Job Summary:
Responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of DWDM/Optical Transport Network (OTN) systems. Ensures end-to-end optical link performance, proper service provisioning, and support integration with IP/MPLS and protection systems in accordance with project requirements. The role primarily focuses on Huawei OptiX OSN series, with working knowledge of Nokia PSS 1830 considered an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and commission DWDM/OTN equipment, primarily Huawei OptiX OSN 1800 series, including optical amplifiers, mux/demux, and transponders.
- Perform optical testing using OTDR, optical power meters, light sources, and Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) to verify link performance, signal integrity, and loss budgets.
- Conduct service provisioning, wavelength/channel assignment, and protection path configuration on Huawei optical platforms.
- Validate optical parameters including OSNR, power balance, dispersion, and link redundancy performance.
- Perform link verification, performance audits, and optical path optimization activities.
- Perform loopback, continuity, and performance tests to ensure service reliability and compliance with design specifications.
- Support integration between DWDM and IP/MPLS layers for service transport and teleprotection channels.
- Configure and operate Network Management Systems (NMS) for element discovery, alarm verification, performance monitoring, and network supervision, primarily on Huawei platforms; basic working knowledge of Nokia NMS for PSS 1830 is an advantage.
- Prepare detailed commissioning and test reports, including configuration snapshots, performance data, and acceptance documentation.
- Support FAT, SAT, and final network acceptance testing.
- Ensure all installation and commissioning works comply with grounding, labeling, and HSE standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Huawei Optical Network Certification is preferred; Nokia certification is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of DWDM, OTN, and optical transport systems, including amplification, mux/demux, and transponders.
- Proficiency in optical testing tools, including OTDR, optical power meters, light sources, and Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA).
- Basic understanding of IP/MPLS network integration, service provisioning, and protection mechanisms.
- Strong working knowledge of Huawei NMS and related network tools; Familiarity with Nokia PSS 1830 systems and NMS is an added advantage.
- UAE driving license is mandatory.
Experience:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in telecom commissioning, installation, and maintenance of DWDM/OTN systems.
- Extensive experience with Huawei OptiX OSN series equipment.
- Proven ability to conduct optical link testing, loss budgeting, OSNR validation, and performance monitoring.
- Experience in service provisioning, wavelength assignment, and protection path configuration on Huawei optical platforms.
- Practical experience in working with NMS tools for configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to multi-vendor environments; experience with Nokia PSS 1830 and DWDM/OTN platforms is an advantage.
- Experience supporting FAT, SAT, and final acceptance testing in large-scale utility or critical infrastructure projects.
- Strong troubleshooting, reporting, and documentation skills in compliance with HSE and utility standards.
