Temporary Coordinator, Library

POSITION: Library Coordinator (Temporary)

DEPARTMENT: Louis B. Mayer Library

LOCATION: Los Angeles Campus

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Library Coordinator provides essential support to AFI Conservatory faculty, Fellows and staff. This role is responsible for the circulation, shelving, and cataloging of library materials and collections. In addition, the Library Coordinator provides staff training and leadership related to circulation and cataloging functions and serves as the primary point of contact when the Library Manager is unavailable.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Open and close the Library as needed.
  • Circulate, discharge, and shelve library materials.
  • Catalog and process new acquisitions; create and maintain records in LibraryWorld.
  • Maintain film distribution contacts and place timely orders for prints and DCPs; serve as the primary point of contact for this process.
  • Catalog archival audio and video materials.
  • Support the digital preservation of audio and video archival collections.
  • Assist with onboarding and training, and provide leadership and support to Library
  • Assistants.
  • Provide research and reference assistance to Library patrons.
  • Shelf-read and maintain the organization of library collections.
  • Page scripts and Cycle, Thesis, and DWW films.
  • Assist patrons with Library equipment and electronic resources.
  • Enforce library policies and procedures.
  • Provide basic technical support to Fellows, faculty, and staff in the computer labs.
  • Provide coverage for the Library and Computer Lab as needed.
  • Perform cataloging and quality control for all library materials.
  • Process current periodicals; maintain a database tracking journal holdings.
  • Organize and store back issues.
  • Maintain flexibility in desk coverage during periods of increased need.
  • Manage Library operations in the Manager’s absence.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master of Library Science (MLS) preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of library or administrative experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of film history and film production is a plus.
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities, ensure appropriate follow-up and reporting, and maintain a broad perspective.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a high-performing team.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to lead projects from conception through completion with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex concepts and procedures in simplistic terms.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Professional, positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment.
  • High level of personal integrity, with the ability to inspire confidence and trust.
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

Pay: $25.00 per hour
