GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Determinate Sentencing Program Specialist performs advanced (senior-level) consultative and technical assistance work. Serves as the agency's representative at disposition hearings involving sentenced offender youths. Coordinates agency representation in those hearings and assists TJJD/TDCJ Liaison as an agency liaison with judges, prosecuting attorneys, and defense counsel. Serves as the agency's representative when coordinating with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Parole Division and the TDCJ Board of Pardons and Parole. Provides training to TJJD and TDCJ staff in matters involving the transfer of cases from one agency to the other.
This position reports to the TJJD/TDCJ Liaison and works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work more than 40 hours per week, travel, and be on-call.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reviews sentenced offender release packets to ensure compliance with agency policy and State laws governing the transfer and release of TJJD youth to TDCJ parole.
Provides training to TJJD staff in matters involving the release of sentenced offenders.
Provides training to TDCJ staff in matters involving the operation of the TJJD.
Serves as the TJJD representative at disposition hearings as needed.
Provides reports and other information to executive staff to assist in the decision-making process.
Attends all required meetings and workshops.
Coordinates the release process of sentenced offender youth between TJJD and TDCJ officials.
Reports any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities.
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures.
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree. Three years of progressively responsible full-time wage earning experience specifically relating to providing services for juveniles in a correctional program or a program dealing with juvenile delinquents.
OR
Bachelor’s degree. Five years of progressively responsible full-time wage earning experience specifically relating to providing services for juveniles in a correctional program or a program dealing with juvenile delinquents.

Note: Any degree diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be obtained from an accredited educational institution.
