The Transportation Manager directs a team of drivers, ensuring the highest quality care is provided to those in need of our non-emergency medical transportation services following Company, state, and regulatory guidelines. The Transportation Manager is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising all Drivers. The Transportation Manager oversees all functions and services provided at the Transportation Center, including strategic planning, marketing, and administrative decision-making. Additionally, the Transportation Manager develops and assigns routes, ensures fleet vehicles are safe operating conditions and maintains related records and reports. Job Summary
Our Drivers have a unique role in that they are the first and last Active Day employee that our members interact with each day. The Transportation Manager is responsible for hiring, training and supervising all Drivers in their Center and/or assigned area or region. Additionally, the Transportation Manager develops and assigns routes, ensures fleet vehicles are in safe operating condition, and maintains related records and reports. Transportation Managers are expected to lead by example - maintaining a positive attitude; being a thoughtful, supportive, productive and dependable leader; keeping our members safe; and always working to enhance the health and happiness of the people we serve and those who care for them.
Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- At least 21 years of age, with a minimum of two-years’ experience directly supervising employees in a transportation environment.
- Valid driver’s license and state/vehicle-specific driver credentials.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) and GPS/routing software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to train, mentor and supervise others.
- Able to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
- Prior experience working with seniors and/or adults with special needs preferred.
- Able to work a flexible schedule.
- Able to push, pull, bend, turn, pivot, transfer and lift up to 50 pounds; able to routinely and repeatedly exit and enter the vehicle to assist members with on- and off-boarding.
- Able to pass required physical exams including Department of Transportation (DOT) exam.
- Successful results of background check, motor vehicle report, drug testing, and any other state-specific requirements.
- Knowledge of local geographic area preferred.
- Where applicable, certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Passenger Assisted Safety & Sensitivity (PASS) are required and will be facilitated as part of job training.
Job Responsibilities
- Hire and supervise Drivers, providing job-related training in accordance with standard operating procedures; provide feedback, coaching, and ongoing performance management.
- Develop efficient, scheduled routes and oversee safe transport of all members in a timely manner. Serve as a back-up Driver for member transport as needed.
- Facilitate exchange of recommendations and insight among Drivers to ensure best practices for accommodating unique needs of members during the transport process.
- Manage fleet; ensure Drivers conduct daily vehicle inspections, follow prescribed maintenance and fueling schedule, confirm wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are operating properly, and maintain cleanliness of their vehicles. Respond to and resolve reports of mechanical or safety concerns, repairs or service needs.
- Maintain vehicle information, including route, mileage, fuel and service records; secure company property, including vehicles, phones and fuel cards.
- Assist with licensing and registration of vehicles as needed.
- Communicate in a positive, courteous and professional manner with members and their families, co-workers, referral agencies, and the community at large.
- Maintain current and working knowledge of state, federal, and regulatory laws and guidelines related to passenger transport.
- Comply with company policies and procedures, safety and regulatory laws and standards, and effectively manage accident investigations and related reporting.
- Ensure proper submission of Medicaid billing claims for transportation trips, if applicable.
- Assist Center Director and home office transportation team in identifying and implementing operational efficiencies to enhance the member experience.
