Description: Fox Rothschild LLP has an opening in multiple offices for a Trust & Estate Associate to join our Taxation & Wealth Planning Department. The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience with estate planning and trust administration. Our Trust & Estate Practice is nationally recognized for advising high-net-worth individuals and families on complex estate planning, tax strategies, and wealth preservation. This position offers client interaction, and the chance to work on complex matters for a nationally recognized firm that values collaboration and your expertise. We are not currently accepting resumes from search firms for this position.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) is required. Must be licensed to practice in the State of California.
  • Admission to practice in U.S. Tax Court is a plus.
  • LLM in Taxation is a plus but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Prepare initial drafts of estate plans for existing clients, including those with complicated family dynamics and structures.
  • Assist with restatements of existing clients’ plans and funding of revocable trusts.
  • Handle trust administration cases, including division of existing irrevocable trusts into sub-trusts and drafting pleadings and managing trust cases in probate court.
  • Draft pleadings and handle probate court cases.
  • Interface with tax litigators and independent valuation experts and accountants .
  • Review and negotiate fee agreements with experts, trustees, appraisers, and tax preparers.
  • Draft indemnity agreements and coordinate with valuation professionals.
  • Foundational knowledge and ability to review federal gift and estate tax returns; foundational knowledge of gift, estate, income, and California property tax planning concepts.
  • Strong academic record and analytical skills are required.
  • Large law firm experience strongly preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Visual Acuity

  • Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary range for this position applies to California. The salary range reflects a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for a position. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this position is $225,000 to $250,000 in California.
