As an Executive Staff member reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Finance directs the fiscal functions and management of Horizon House’s $90M budget, and is responsible for the financial records of the organization. The Vice President of Finance will also be responsible for partnering with senior management to establish standards and best practices that support the Agency’s strategic objectives, as well as managing the overall financial reporting of the organization.
The Vice President of Finance will support the Executive Staff, the Board of Directors, and Senior Management in the following areas:
- Provide timely and relevant financial information required for financial and budgetary decisions affecting the organization; oversee all cash management activities to enhance operations.
- Provide reliable cash flow projections and reporting mechanisms that include a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs; provide strategic financial input and leadership on decisions affecting the organization, including forecasting and potential alternatives.
- Oversee the accounting, finance, payroll, purchasing activities, and department personnel to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls and business processes.
- Monitor compliance of all government (federal, state, and local) regulations in accordance with fiscal contract requirements; provide leadership that will develop, enhance, implement, and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall operations and effectiveness of the Agency in support of organizational goals.
- Collaborate with Senior Management to establish and implement short- & long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operational procedures; provide financial forecasting for proposed programmatic changes and enhancements.
- Maintain close working relationships with financial institutions, government and external auditors; ensuring that adequate controls are in place and all audits are issued in a timely manner, in accordance with nonprofit generally accepted accounting principles, and when applicable, Government Auditing Standards.
- Oversee the preparation of the annual budget; collaborate with Senior Management on the timely/accurate preparation of budgets and adherence to budget goals.
- Prepare and oversee the periodic reporting of financial statements, tax report filings, employee benefits filings, and the Form 990 report.
Successful candidates will have the following:
- BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 5 years at a nonprofit organization.
- Thorough knowledge of current fiscal practices and regulations; strong analytical, organizational, communication, and computer skills are required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of management, and to represent the organization to external organizations.
- Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Passion for the mission, the work the Agency performs, and mentoring others.
Scope:
- Required to sit for long periods.
