Veterinary Assistant Instructor

Position Description: Under the direct supervision of the Education Manager and/or appropriate Department Director (if applicable), an instructor is responsible for overall instruction duties involved in conveying the curricular content of the program to students through implementation of program objectives as outline and described in the program syllabus and course outlines. Regular reliable attendance. Onsite Position.

Essential Functions:

• Provide and produce evaluation strategies and instruments appropriate for assessing student needs and measuring academic growth and understanding
• Provide a learning environment appropriate for enhancing academic progress
• Provide instructional methodologies consistent with student needs within the program guidelines
• Provide well defined goals for student achievements
• Motivate and encourage optimum achievement in students
• Maintain up to date academic and attendance records in compliance with school and regulatory organization policies and guidelines reporting any attendance concerns to the Director of Education.
• Provide continuing guidance, evaluation and testing to measure student progress Deliver lecture material in a professional manner and consistent with program curricular guidelines
• Assist students in applicable practicum’s and hands-on lab assignments
• Accurately correct all assignments, test, quizzes and final examinations and assign equivalency grades within school grading policy
• Immediately report any observed or perceived difficulties in student progress to supervisors and, upon approval, initiate appropriate actions to rectify same
• Provide students with academic support, tutoring, and skills enhancement as necessary. Foster effective communication between students, staff and administration
• Maintain program equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner and/or report any equipment malfunctions, deficiencies or safety hazards to supervisor immediately upon discovery
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field or discipline; stay current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conference or workshops.
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning; employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students including strategies to meet diverse students’ needs.
• Teach classes as assigned in an environment within field or discipline as needed.
• Participate in meetings and events as required.
• Plan, prepare and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture and/or laboratory formats based on the approved curricula.
• Ensure that all classes start and end at the prescribed times. Maintain expertise in subject area
• Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
• Prepare and organize the lesson materials, equipment, and training area.
• Provide training to new instructors in on‐site location and/or other Summit Campuses, as needed.
• Develop training aids and projects relevant to the subject matter taught
• Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of their educational process Deliver approved curriculum to students on a daily basis
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Must have diploma/certificate in veterinary assistance, veterinary technology or related field from an accredited school and have three years’ experience as a Veterinary Assistant, equivalent or higher. Shall possess a current occupational experience and/or teaching expertise necessary to teach.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
