Role Summary:

Responsible for the medical care, treatment, and health management of wildlife species under the organization’s care. This role focuses on preventive healthcare, diagnostics, surgical intervention, and rehabilitation of wild animals—not domestic species.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical diagnosis, treatment, and surgical care for wildlife species (mammals, birds, reptiles, etc.).
  • Conduct routine health checks , disease screening, vaccinations, and quarantine evaluations.
  • Develop and implement preventive health programs for wildlife populations in captivity or rehabilitation centers.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and ensure compliance with veterinary and wildlife regulations.
  • Assist in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs , ensuring ethical and safe handling practices.
  • Collaborate with zoologists, wildlife biologists, and animal keepers to develop nutrition and enrichment plans.
  • Monitor and analyze disease outbreaks and zoonotic threats , recommending control measures.
  • Provide training and guidance to animal care staff on health monitoring and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in wildlife conservation projects , research studies, and public education initiatives.
  • Ensure biosecurity, hygiene, and welfare standards are strictly followed in all animal enclosures and treatment areas.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from a recognized institution.
  • License/registration to practice veterinary medicine in [relevant country].
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in wildlife or zoo veterinary practice (not domestic animal clinics).
  • Proven experience with wild mammals, birds, and reptiles — diagnosis, anesthesia, and treatment.
  • Familiarity with wildlife handling, restraint, and transport protocols .
  • Knowledge of epidemiology, wildlife diseases, and conservation medicine .

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong clinical, diagnostic, and surgical skills specific to wildlife species.
  • Excellent observation and problem-solving abilities under field and captive conditions.
  • Skilled in emergency response and wildlife rescue operations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (keepers, researchers, environmental officers).
  • Commitment to animal welfare and ethical conservation practices .
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
