Job Description
The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Victim/Witness Program has an immediate opening for a Part Time Victim/Witness Assistant. The assistant provides specialized services to victims of crime seeking protective orders. The position is grant funded by the Department of Criminal Justice Services. Responsibilities Include:
Explains the criminal justice system and ensures that victims are aware of their rights
Provides crisis intervention
Assists with trials; accompanies victims and witnesses to Court
Assists with Protective Orders
Explains Court procedures and provide support
Performs other related duties as required to include data entry.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires an associate’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in law, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.



Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the criminal justice system
Demonstration of a high level of sensitivity and empathy
Spanish-Bilingual skills highly preferred.
