Job Title: Freelance Video Editor – Food & Lifestyle Content

Company: Content Thunder

Location: Remote (US-Based Only)

Job Type: Contract / 1099

Pay: $25–30 per hour

Hours: 8–15 hours per week (with room to grow)

ABOUT US

Content Thunder is a digital marketing agency based in Springfield, MO. We're looking for a freelance video editor to work with us on an ongoing basis — primarily editing content for Gourmade, a recipe and food content brand we're growing across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

This isn't a one-off gig. We need someone who can become a regular part of how we make content — someone we can count on week to week who genuinely enjoys editing food videos.

There's also potential to pick up additional work editing for a second channel focused on AI and tech content as that grows. We're looking for someone who wants steady work and is open to taking on more over time.

WHAT YOU'D BE EDITING

Gourmade is all about technique-driven cooking, food science, and making gourmet recipes feel approachable. Think recipe tutorials, cooking tips, and food storytelling.

On a typical month, you'd be editing:

- 4–8 short-form videos (Reels, TikTok, Shorts)

- 2 long-form YouTube videos (10–20 min range)

- Sometimes more when we're in a push

WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE

- Editing both shorts and long-form YouTube content

- Color grading — especially making food look great

- Audio cleanup: EQ, noise reduction, music, levels

- Building strong hooks, pacing for retention, smooth transitions

- Following a recipe brief and cutting footage so the cooking flow makes sense

- Getting footage and assets through Google Drive and delivering the same way

If you also do any of these, that's a bonus (not required):

- Light photo editing (thumbnails, step images)

- Uploading finished videos to YouTube/Instagram/TikTok

- Helping with filming if you happen to be local to Springfield, MO

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- You edit in Adobe Premiere Pro (preferred) or DaVinci Resolve

- You can handle both short-form and long-form content well

- You understand what makes people keep watching — hooks, pacing, pattern interrupts, storytelling

- You have a good eye for color, especially with food

- You can work with audio — not just slapping a track on, but actually mixing it well

- You can take a recipe brief and figure out how to tell the story with the footage

- You own your own gear and software

- You're US-based and generally available during business hours for communication

- You're responsive — if we send a message, we hear back the same day

- You have a portfolio that shows what you can do (food content is a big plus)

Even better if you also have:

- Experience specifically with food or recipe content

- Familiarity with YouTube analytics and retention

- Motion graphics or text animation skills

- Thumbnail or basic graphic design ability

- Experience with tech or educational content (relevant for future work)

TURNAROUND

Timelines flex depending on what we're working on, but to give you a sense of the pace we like to work at:

- Shorts: we'd typically expect a first draft within 2–3 days of getting footage

- Long-form: first draft within about a week

- Revisions: same-day or next-day is ideal

- Full cycle from footage to final export: generally within 1–2 weeks depending on complexity

Things come up, priorities shift — we get that. The main thing is you communicate. If something's going to take longer, just tell us. No surprises.

All project files, exports, and assets stay with Content Thunder.

HOW TO APPLY

Please include the following with your application:

1. Your resume

2. Your portfolio or reel — links to published videos are great, food content samples especially

3. A quick intro about your experience, what tools you use, and how many hours per week you're available

4. Your hourly rate

We'll interview the top candidates and then do a paid trial project — you'll edit a short piece with real footage so we can both see if it's a good fit before committing to anything ongoing.
