Position Title
Web Writer/Editor

Job Responsibilities
The web editor/writer provides guidance and assistance with web content development and management, design, editing, and brand and accessibility best-practice compliance. The web editor/writer provides ongoing support for top-level web content, assists academic and non-academic departments with web-related requests, and helps develop web site prototypes. Working with Public Relations, Marketing and Information Technology Services staff, the web writer/editor helps assess technical challenges and troubleshoot processes in displaying content.
  • Edit and manage existing webpages. Review top pages content for quality and consistency
  • Identify outdated content on more prominent sections of websites and encourage departments to update their content
  • Create new pages, content, and prototypes for websites as needed by various offices and departments across campus
  • Create pages for new academic programs and add links to appropriate web pages. Check to make sure information on academic programs matches information in the University catalog
  • Create wireframes to assist with website updates and redesign efforts
  • Approve all updates by web editors made on www.truman.edu
  • Use Google Analytics to keep tabs on pages viewed the most often and top search terms people are using
  • Utilize Form Builder and other tools in support of robust and responsive websites.
  • Facilitate good website management through developing and maintaining high-quality end-user documentation for campus
  • Work with ITS to assess and troubleshoot challenges with content display or other technical processes
  • Make routine updates to the website to ensure top-level information is refreshed and is of interest
  • Responsible for ensuring that the top-level website is compliant with the WCAG accessibility standards

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design, Publications, Web Design, Web Development, Digital Design, or other relevant field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Experience writing and editing web content
  • Experience with WordPress CMS
  • Demonstrated ability to check web sites for accuracy, functionality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to brand style guidelines
  • Demonstrated image editing (cropping, resizing) abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and adept at multitasking

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience customizing web content to ensure websites meet accessibility requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of web design, HTML, Accessibility Best Practices, Google Analytics, SEO/SEM
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with training and support for new web editors

Salary
The starting salary for this position ranges $38,000-44,000 annually commensurate with qualifications and experience.
