Welding Engineer
The Welding Engineer will develop and sustain a welding and/or wire direct energy deposition additive process.
Responsible for technology, people, and process qualifications, this role will require a hand-on shop support component with a strong capability of problem solving.
He/she will be accountable for 3rd party program accreditation and well as monitoring and advancing technology.
Position Responsibilities:
· Develop and own the welding program (AWS, ASME and others). Collaborate with quality as to the system enhancements required for certification.
· Provide on-the-floor support to welders and other engineering team members in the executing of welding and/or other additive processes and products.
· Work closely with the non-destructive testing team in the development and sustainment of a weld inspection program
· Develop, write, and ensure effective execution of manufacturing procedures including welding and additive manufacturing procedures.
· Develop and submit customer facing work procedures for new and repaired products.
· Working closely with the materials lab, review process and welder qualification samples, adjusting practices and/or coaching to ensure sustainable quality performance.
· Interpret industry and customer specifications and communicate requirements
· Teaching office and shop employees welding concepts and practices
· Troubleshooting and problem solving utilizing a scientific approach
· Provide technical disposition of welding quality rejections and own the corrective action of system failures.
· Research and development projects for process improvement and product development. Work closely with cross functional team (Sales, Forge, Forge Development Team, Heat Treat, Vendors, etc.) to develop new customers, product types and/or market segments
Required Skills/Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Science Degree in Weld Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science (emphasis on weld processes) desired but will consider candidates with comparable industry experience.
· Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a weld engineer or applicable additive manufacturing research.
· Experience in building and maintaining a certified weld program.
· Intermediate understanding of physical metallurgy principles as they relate to welding, metal working and heat treatment applications.
· AWS Certified Weld Inspector
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
