- A welfare officer in a construction company implements worker well-being initiatives, acts as a liaison between workers and management, ensures compliance with labour laws, handles grievances, coordinates health services, and promotes a positive workplace culture. Key duties include facilitating access to basic amenities like clean facilities and rest areas, supporting workers with personal issues through counselling, conducting welfare inspections, maintaining records, and organizing health and safety awareness programs.
- Serve as the bridge between the workforce and management, conveying concerns and information in both directions.
- Address and resolve worker grievances and complaints in a timely and effective manner.
- Ensure adherence to safety measures and promote health and well-being through initiatives like medical check-ups and first aid access.
- Ensure the company and its projects comply with national and international labor laws, welfare standards, and regulations.
- Assist in providing and maintaining essential worker amenities, such as clean toilets, rest facilities, and access to drinking water.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of worker details, welfare activities, and grievance resolutions for audit purposes.
- Conduct welfare induction sessions, organize awareness programs on workers' rights and safety procedures, and promote a respectful workplace culture.
- Provide counselling and signposting for workers facing personal or professional challenges, including issues like addictions or financial difficulties.
- Conduct regular inspections of project sites and facilities to ensure welfare provisions are adequate and well-maintained.
- Facilitate communication between various parties, including internal departments, subcontractors, and external auditors.
- The welfare officer may oversee the management of welfare units, which provide essential spaces for workers to rest, take breaks, and hold meetings.
- Ensure that worker camps and housing facilities meet set standards for personal hygiene and comfort.
- Support initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and health screening programs, especially in the challenging environment of a construction site.
