We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible analyze project specifications, blueprints, and RFQs to prepare detailed cost estimates for aluminum fabrication projects. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in aluminum properties, fabrication processes, and financial acumen to deliver competitive, accurate quotes while ensuring profitability and feasibility.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review client RFQs, engineering drawings, models (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and specifications to understand scope, materials, tolerances, and finishes.
  • Identify fabrication requirements (cutting, bending, welding, machining, surface treatment).
  • Calculate material costs (aluminum alloys, extrusions, sheet metal) based on current market rates and waste factors.
  • Estimate labor hours for machining, welding, assembly, and finishing (anodizing, powder coating).
  • Incorporate costs for tooling, outsourcing (e.g., specialized coatings), logistics, and overhead.
  • Liaise with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to validate manufacturability, sourcing options, and process constraints.
  • Advise on design-for-manufacture (DFM) improvements to optimize costs and production efficiency.
  • Prepare formal proposals with itemized costs, lead times, terms, and assumptions.
  • Use ERP/estimating software (e.g., ProEst, FabTrol, or custom tools) to generate consistent quotes.
  • Flag high-risk elements (tight tolerances, complex welds, special certifications) and propose contingencies.
  • Maintain historical data for benchmarking and accuracy improvement.
  • Track awarded projects vs. estimated costs to refine future estimates.
  • Stay updated on market trends, fabrication tech, and material science advancements.

Qualification Required

  • 3+ years in estimating within metal fabrication, with aluminum-specific experience.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings (GD&T, weld symbols, surface finishes).
  • Strong knowledge of aluminum alloys (e.g., 6061-T6, 7075), fabrication methods (CNC, TIG welding, bending), and finishes (anodizing, powder coating).
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables) and math competency.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail in fast-paced environments.
