DESCRIPTION

"Amazon is looking for a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator to join our team:

Year after year, as we continue to grow, we need to work as smartly as possible to keep all our team members safe, fulfilled, motivated, and empowered. To help us achieve this, we're seeking a driven EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Officer. With your bias for action, we need you to step in and help drive health and safety initiatives across our fulfillment center in East Cairo.

In this crucial WHS position, you will report to the WHS Manager."

Key job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management & Safety Standards

Lead site risk assessments for current and new activities
Lead implementation of site-specific WHS standards and guidelines
Lead implementation of site WHS objectives and programs
Conduct frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and/or processes
Work with Operations team to implement risk-mitigation solutions
Daily Operations & Monitoring

Promote safety culture through daily WHS content in shift briefings
Conduct daily Powered Industrial Tool and Trailer Dock Release inspections
Monitor Daily Action Tracking System
Review and sign off daily Permits to Work
Monitor heat index and provide support
Ensure adequate PPE inventory and coordinate procurement
Incident Management & Investigation

Respond to on-site incidents and occupational injuries
Guide area managers in incident investigations and report writing
Assist Operations team with Austin follow-up sheets and CAPA creation
Ensure incident records align with global WHS standards and local regulations
Emergency Preparedness

Prepare and maintain emergency response plans
Manage and conduct emergency drills
Oversee emergency response training and documentation
Audits & Inspections

Conduct daily and weekly WHS audits including:
Hazardous waste room inspections
Spill kit inspections
First aid room inspections
Participate in site management safety walks
Monitor Area Organisation (AO) weekly assignments
Reporting & Communication

Provide daily updates to WHS Manager on:
Objectives progress
Incidents
AO ATS
Network actions
Prepare WHS committee meeting agendas and minutes
Create and maintain ATS records
Additional Support

Lead WHS-related procurement initiatives
Provide support for site-specific requests and unplanned events

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Engineering is a standard educational requirement. These programs provide the technical knowledge and training needed to identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards.

  • Occupational Health and Safety programs focus specifically on understanding OSHA regulations, implementing safety management systems, and promoting a safety culture within an organization.

  • Engineering degrees, such as industrial, mechanical, or environmental engineering, also provide a strong foundation for safety roles as they teach principles of design, systems analysis, and risk mitigation.

Experience:
  • 2+ years of prior experience working in the occupational safety and health field is typical. This could include roles such as:
Safety coordinator/specialist
Environmental health and safety (EHS) Engineer
Safety consultant

Communication Skills:
  • Strong English communication abilities, both verbal and written, are essential for safety professionals. They need to:
  • Deliver safety training to workers
  • Write detailed safety SOPs.
  • Present findings and recommendations to management
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment and customer focus skills
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses
  • Experienced in emergency response and currently holds First aid and CPR certificates
  • Experience in Worker’s Compensation case management
  • Analyzing and manipulating data
  • Passion for safety
