Position Summary: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant is responsible for the smooth, timely and accurate operation of the accounting functions. This position will support all aspects of the general accounting duties to be carried out with accuracy and efficiency. This position will play a key role in supporting the CFO to achieve all month end, quarter end and year end procedures, as well as assisting with weekly report generation and yearly audits. The accountant should be well versed in all general accounting practices and enjoy working in a collaborative and continuously evolving organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts payables (vendor management and payments)
  • Process donations from various sources in tandem with development team
  • Process accounts receivables and pledges
  • Record business credit card transactions
  • Perform administrative tasks such as office mail, depositing checks, e-file storage
  • Assist in financial transactions pertaining to grants and restricted funding
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger to ensure accuracy of transactions
  • Collaborate closely with staff across various departments on ad hoc items and requests
  • Enter postings to the GL, classes & jobs in the accounting software system
  • Process payroll through third party system
  • Perform accounting for homeowner impound accounts, mortgage payments, and escrow checking
  • Post journal entries, maintain GL schedules in Excel, tie out GL balances
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

Additional Duties:

  • Assist in year-end closings and ad hoc reporting
  • Assist in year-end audits and other reporting requirements, as needed

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must know debits and credits & be comfortable preparing journal entries.
  • GAAP knowledgeable
  • Detail oriented and proven organization and planning skills
  • Ability to provide satisfactory customer service to clients, vendors, and staff
  • Multitasker and ability to manage deadlines
  • Problem identification and analysis

Education, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or combination of Associate’s degree and five years relevant experience
  • Three or more years work experience with general accounting practices
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (specifically Excel)
  • Experience with accounting software (Oracle NetSuite a plus)
  • Experience with real estate and construction transactions preferred but not required

Time Requirements:

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, it is a non-exempt position. It may be necessary to occasionally work extra hours, usually around the fiscal and calendar year ends.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
