GENERAL FUNCTION

Plays a vital role in optimizing team performance by overseeing day-to-day operations of all Credit Union financial record keeping; ensures accuracy of records; prepares monthly financial and statistical reports.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the accounting records of the Credit Union are maintained accurately.
  • Responsible for completing the month-end process: report/data gathering, journal entries, and reporting.
  • Retrieve and review visa reports through PSCU for debit card and credit card reward liability and post accruals each month that depend on how many points have been redeemed and earned. Ensure credit card principal balances to GLs are in balance and accrue interest for days in the month outside of the statement period.
  • Complete all deferred loan cost analysis (FASB) monthly.
  • Enter bank transaction data, keep track of branch/ATM cash orders, and outgoing mortgage wire funding to determine if overnight borrowing is needed.
  • Complete and maintain Rent Schedule notifying senior management of upcoming deadlines. Responsible for maintaining leases through our lease accounting software.
  • Assist the Accounting Specialist in all monthly General Ledger Reconciliations.
  • Complete daily Eascorp balance and projections to ensure Credit Union has sufficient cash for main operating account and communicate this to the CFO.
  • Complete all Property & Real Estate Taxes quarterly and annually where applicable. File Property Tax Declarations for Credit Union locations annually.
  • Review monthly reports from the broker dealer for investments and post accrued interest, premium/discount amortization, unrealized gains/losses, realized gains/losses for the CDA, and changes in FMV. Post any principal/interest payments that we receive through FHLB.
  • Complete annual UBIT filings on a timely basis.
  • Maintain Charge Off & Recovery records and balance monthly.
  • Works with Credit Union auditors and regulatory agencies (NCUA & DOB), providing them with assistance in performing their reviews of the Credit Union operations.
  • Review certain expense GLs to make sure that bills are being paid correctly and move out transactions that should hit an accrual or another GL, have a prepaid sub account, or have a fixed asset depreciation sub account.
  • Processes payroll (staff) general ledger transactions and performs a verification of quarterly and annual tax information.
  • Processes IRA and Backup Tax withholdings (government payments and reporting) in accordance with Connecticut and Federal requirements.
  • When necessary, assist in initiating outgoing wires with a secondary approval by another authorized user.
  • Creates and maintains Vendor records within the Credit Union’s in-house system, keeping in compliance with the IRS 1099 reporting requirements. Work with Operations to complete 1099 filing annually.
  • Be a backup for pre-paid records and documentation within the Credit Union’s in-house system.
  • Responsible for entering fixed assets into the system, setting up depreciation sub accounts, scrapping, and making sure fixed assets are in balance.
  • Maintains accrual records and documentation within the Credit Union’s in-house system.
  • Maintains online postage account, postage meter records, and balancing for each Branch; funds accounts when necessary and manages leases.
  • Abides by all federal, state, and local laws including but not limited to: The Bank Secrecy Act, including the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN); Uniform Commercial Code (UCC); Federal Reserve Bank; and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
  • Cross train and provide back-up for the NCUA quarterly 5300 report.
  • Assist Controller & CFO in annual budgeting process as well as financial audit.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree in Accounting.
  • Five years’ experience with a minimum of three years’ experience within a credit union or another financial institution in the Accounting area.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted Accounting procedures (GAAP).
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills such as calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, division, etc.
  • Ability to focus on details to ensure accuracy.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES

  • Sitting the majority of the time.
  • The ability to occasionally lift, push, pull or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, reaching above, at or below shoulder level, and kneeling.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy.
  • The ability to effectively interact with all personality types in stressful situations.
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively.
  • Occasional travel required.
