Job Description: Appellate Legal Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Appellate Legal Assistant to provide administrative and case support to attorneys handling appeals and complex litigation matters. This role requires strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, format, proofread, and file appellate briefs, motions, and related court documents.

  • Assist with preparation of records, appendices, and exhibits for appellate filings.

  • Coordinate and track court deadlines, docketing, and calendaring of hearings, filings, and oral arguments.

  • Conduct cite-checking, legal research support, and document review under attorney supervision.

  • Maintain case files, correspondence, and electronic records.

  • Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel as needed.

  • Provide administrative support to attorneys, including scheduling, travel coordination, and expense reporting.

  • Assist with trial record management and preparation for appeals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.

  • 5+ years of legal assistant or paralegal experience, ideally with appellate or litigation exposure.

  • Familiarity with state and federal appellate rules and electronic filing systems.

  • Strong grammar, proofreading, and cite-checking skills.

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal document management software.

  • Professional communication skills and discretion with sensitive information
