The Assistant Line Manager supports the Line Manager in the day-to-day operation and supervision of a specific production line, shift, or team. This role is crucial for ensuring that operational targets for safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity are met. The Assistant Line Manager acts as a key link between management and the frontline staff, stepping in to manage the line in the Line Manager’s absence.
Operational Management
- Supervise and monitor the performance of line employees, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Assist the Line Manager in planning and organizing daily production schedules and resource allocation (staff, materials, equipment).
- Monitor production output and quality metrics, identifying and reporting any variances or issues immediately.
- Ensure the efficient setup, running, and shutdown of the production line.
- Help troubleshoot minor equipment and process issues to minimize downtime.
Safety and Quality Assurance
- Champion a safe working environment by strictly enforcing all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular line inspections and safety checks, reporting and escalating potential hazards.
- Oversee the implementation of Quality Control (QC) procedures to ensure all products meet required specifications and standards.
Team Leadership and Development
- Provide guidance, coaching, and direction to line operators and team members.
- Assist in the training of new employees and in ongoing skills development for existing staff.
- Help manage employee attendance, shift rotation, breaks, and performance issues, escalating complex matters to the Line Manager or HR.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement.
Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date production records, reports, and logs (e.g., downtime, material usage, quality checks).
- Communicate effectively with other departments (e.g., Maintenance, Quality, Warehousing) to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) to enhance line performance.
- Experience: [1-3] years of experience in a production, manufacturing, retail, or logistics environment, with at least [1] year in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of operational safety standards and quality control principles.
Preferred
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, 5S).
- Technical: Proficiency with relevant production management software or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
