Role Purpose

The Assistant Manager – Taxation will play a key role in managing tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for corporate clients. This individual will ensure that tax returns (direct and indirect) are prepared accurately and submitted on time, lead tax projects (including transfer pricing), and provide strategic tax recommendations. The role includes substantial client interaction, cross-functional coordination, and mentorship of junior staff.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

Tax Compliance, Advisory & Technical Delivery:

· Manage and review corporate tax and indirect tax compliance deliverables for multiple clients.

· Lead engagements involving tax structuring, tax planning, and business transformation support.

· Prepare high-quality tax advisory reports, technical memos, and client deliverables.

· Conduct detailed tax research and interpret evolving tax legislation.

· Support tax controversy services, including audit defense, appeals, and submissions to authorities.

· Maintain a strong understanding of global tax developments and their local implications.

Transfer Pricing & Transaction Support:

· Oversee Transfer Pricing documentation, benchmarking studies, and compliance packages.

· Lead tax due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring mandates.

Client Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

· Lead client interactions, manage expectations, and address tax matters proactively.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, advisory) on integrated projects.

Leadership, Quality & Business Development :

· Supervise, coach, and mentor junior staff while ensuring high-quality deliverables.

· Develop and implement process improvements for tax reporting efficiency.

· Assist in business development by identifying opportunities and supporting proposals.

· Ensure risk management policies and quality standards are consistently met.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Strong technical knowledge of tax law and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data-gathering skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients and tax authorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
  • Leadership ability: coaching, supervising, and mentoring junior staff.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business, Law, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification preferred (e.g., CA, ACCA, CPA, CTA, or equivalent).
  • Typically 4-8 years of relevant tax experience (professional services firms or in-house tax department)
  • Hands-on experience in direct tax, indirect tax (VAT/GST), and transfer pricing.
  • Exposure to cross-border tax issues is a plus.
