Assistant Plant Manager

Role Description:

This role oversees Can plant operations and acts as the backup to the Plant Manager. The Assistant Plant Manager leads and coordinates the activities of salaried and hourly associates to meet or exceed location operating goals and efficiency measures in the areas of safety, production, quality, and customer satisfaction. The position will report to and take direction from the Plant Manager.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Assist in developing and executing the local plant budget to exceed the business results.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the crew supervisors and maintenance staff engaged in the production and processing of can production.
  • Develop daily operating plans, coordinate staff to lead maintenance, and production schedules in order to meet customer requirements. Review metrics and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Confer with supervisors to coordinate operations and activities throughout the operation.
  • As necessary, inspect materials, product, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Determine best problem-solving solution.
  • Ensure safe operation of all equipment and ensure supervisors train associates, as necessary.
  • Ensure all associates adhere to production and processing standards.
  • Provide guidance to direct reports in resolving employee complaints and or concerns.
  • Ensure all Company procedures and policies applicable to the operation are enforced.
  • Ensure all production, quality, and maintenance systems are in working order.
  • Monitor and drive scrap and spoilage to a minimum.
  • Lead maintenance day activities.
  • Drive the annual performance review for direct reports.
  • Managers: Establish a working environment which promotes the importance of employees acting with integrity and in an ethical manner.
  • Managers: Ensure the execution of key internal controls within the area of responsibility.
  • Managers: Demonstrate commitment to the Ardagh core values, policies, and procedures.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline required.
  • Minimum 10 years in manufacturing with proven Plant Management experience.
  • 5-7 years in supervision, quality, and related areas in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Proactive employee relations leadership to include coaching and mentoring employees.
  • Responsible for setting the bar for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production equipment and processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Administrative and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, employee relations, leadership techniques, in the coordination of people and resources.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines, tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of Lean tools and principles is also desired.
