Assistant Professor of Nursing

Job Responsibilities
The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University seeks applicants for a Tenure- track, Assistant Professor of Nursing to begin August 2026.

This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment located on Truman’s campus in Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described below, faculty are expected to contribute to the campus culture of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and interdisciplinarity by teaching in the University’s core curriculum (The Dialogues) and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and coursework as needed.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in nursing and related topics, content, and clinical areas, such as Assessment & Fundamentals, Adult Health, Child/Family, Maternal/Neonatal, Critical Care, Mental Health, Public Health, Nursing Leadership, and/or other areas as needed. Scholarly activity appropriate to rank and consistent with the teacher-scholar model is expected. Additional duties include mentoring student research, student advising, student recruitment and retention, and service to the department and university.

Required Qualifications
  • valid State of Missouri Professional Nurse License;
  • master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution;
  • evidence of or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in nursing;
  • strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • commitment to collegiality within the learning community.


Preferred Qualifications
  • a completed terminal degree in nursing or a closely related field;
  • two or more years of experience as a registered nurse;
  • ability to teach other related courses within the department;
  • ability to teach courses within the university’s Dialogues curriculum, as scheduling allows.
