Assistant Purchaser

An Assistant Purchaser (or Purchasing Assistant) supports procurement teams by managing administrative tasks, processing purchase orders, monitoring inventory levels, and maintaining supplier relationships. They facilitate purchasing by tracking deliveries, updating databases, and assisting with bids to ensure efficient supply chain operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: Issuing purchase orders (POs), tracking shipments, and resolving invoice discrepancies.
  • Inventory & Data Management: Monitoring stock levels and updating inventory data systems.
  • Supplier Interaction: Communicating with vendors regarding product availability, pricing, and ETAs.
  • Supporting Buyers: Assisting senior staff with market research and analyzing product trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Software: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP) and ERP/procurement systems.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Effective interpersonal skills for managing vendor relationships.
  • Organization: High attention to detail for managing contracts and documentation.
  • Education/Experience: Often an entry-level position, sometimes requiring a business or supply chain-related degree.
