About the Job:

A Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney represents employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in workers’ compensation claims. The role focuses on evaluating claims, developing defense strategies, and ensuring compliance with state workers’ compensation laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent employers and insurers in workers’ compensation cases before administrative agencies, trial courts, and appellate bodies.
  • Conduct case evaluations, including assessing claim exposure, reviewing medical records, and analyzing relevant legal issues.
  • Develop and implement effective defense strategies aligned with client goals.
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, briefs, and discovery responses.
  • Take and defend depositions of injured workers, medical professionals, and expert witnesses.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and participate in mediations or hearings.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, adjusters, and internal stakeholders regarding case status, strategy, and risk.
  • Conduct legal research to ensure compliance with evolving workers’ compensation laws and regulations.
  • Manage a high-volume caseload while meeting deadlines and maintaining detailed case files.

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active state bar license (in the relevant jurisdiction).
  • 1–5+ years of workers’ compensation defense or related litigation experience (varies by employer).
  • Strong knowledge of local/state workers’ compensation statutes and procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, including deposition and negotiation experience.
  • Ability to independently manage a fast-paced caseload.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with insurance carriers or third-party administrators.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and work injury assessments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Client-focused communication style with a solutions-driven approach.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year
