Job Description – Mechanical Draftsman

Location: Karachi

Reports to: Director / Senior Design Engineer

Role Purpose

Create accurate 2D and 3D drawings for sheet metal components, filter parts, jigs & fixtures, rubber components, machining parts, dies, and assembly tools. Ensure drawings meet manufacturing requirements and support production, tool room, and development activities.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical Drafting & Modelling

• Prepare detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD.
• Develop drawings for:
• Press tools (piercing, blanking, forming dies)
• Deep draw dies
• Jigs and fixtures
• CNC machined components
• Rubber molded components

2. Dimensional & Tolerance Control

• Apply GD&T for critical dimensions.
• Ensure manufacturability within the capabilities of your press shop, CNC centers, and tool room.

3. Tooling & Process Support

• Prepare drawings required for:
• Die corrections
• New die development
• Molds
• Work closely with tool room to finalize designs and resolve issues.

4. BOM & Documentation

• Generate complete Bill of Materials for assemblies.
• Maintain drawing revision control and proper documentation.
• Prepare exploded views, assembly instructions, and part lists.

5. Manufacturing Support

• Assist production departments with:
• Drawings for part redesign
• Alterations for manufacturability
• Reverse engineering existing parts
• Updating drawings based on actual shop feedback

6. Collaboration & Communication

• Coordinate with:
• Tool Room
• CNC Machining
• Production
• Quality Control & Assurance.

Qualifications Education

• DAE Mechanical / B.Tech Mechanical
• Additional certification in CAD software is a plus.

Experience

• 2–5+ years as a draftsman in automotive, machinery, sheet metal, molds/dies, or fabrication industries.

Required Software Skills

• AutoCAD (mandatory)
• Creo or SolidWorks (preferred)
• Understanding of CAM basics is an advantage.

Key Competencies

• Strong command on 2D detailing and dimensioning
• Ability to convert hand sketches into complete drawings
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (stamping, machining, welding, molding)
• GD&T knowledge
• Good documentation and revision management
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Compensation

Starting at Rs. 40,000 per month
Higher for 3D CAD + die experience.

Performance Expectations (First 90 Days)

• Prepare standard drawings for new parts
• Complete at least 4–6 new die/mold drawings
• Organize all existing drawings into a controlled folder system
• Reduce tool room modification requests through better detailing
• Support CNC machining with accurate models and coordinates
