Overview
We are seeking a reliable Backup Operator to manage and maintain backup and recovery processes across our Muscat environment. This role ensures data protection, backup integrity and timely recovery to meet business SLAs.
Key responsibilities
- Execute, monitor and verify scheduled backups for servers, databases, virtual machines and cloud workloads.
- Perform regular backup integrity checks, restores and test recoveries to validate data recoverability.
- Maintain backup job schedules, retention policies and media rotation procedures (disk, tape, cloud).
- Respond to backup failures and alerts: investigate causes, remediate issues and escalate complex problems to senior engineers.
- Manage backup infrastructure: backup servers, storage, agents, replication jobs and backup software (e.g., Veeam, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault or similar).
- Document backup configurations, runbooks and recovery procedures; keep recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) current.
- Support disaster‑recovery drills and participate in incident response for data‑loss events.
- Coordinate with system, database and application teams to schedule backups and plan restores with minimal business impact.
- Maintain backup capacity planning, reporting and liaise with vendors for support and patching.
- Ensure compliance with data‑protection policies and secure handling of backup media.
Required skills & experience
- 1–3 years’ experience in backup operations, storage administration or related IT operations role.
- Hands‑on experience with enterprise backup solutions (Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault, Rubrik or equivalent).
- Familiarity with virtualisation (VMware/Hyper‑V), SAN/NAS storage concepts and basic Windows/Linux administration.
- Experience performing restores for files, VMs and databases; understanding of database backup strategies (SQL, Oracle) desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, process discipline and ability to follow runbooks under pressure.
- Good documentation and communication skills in English; Arabic advantageous.
- Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation and out‑of‑hours recovery tasks.
- Legal right to work in Oman and ability to travel to Muscat sites as required.

Pay: RO25.000 - RO50.000 per hour
