JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Benefits Administrator

JOB OVERVIEW: Coordinates the administration of employee benefits programs such as basic and major medical coverages, dental insurance, group life insurance, pension plans, and other benefits. Consults with and advises employees on eligibility, provisions, and other matters related to benefits. Maintains benefits records and documents in HRIS. Conducts annual open enrollment activities and coordinates employee benefits communications.

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

WORK HOURS: Full time; Hours may vary to cover service needs.

REPORTS TO: Director, Total Rewards

PREREQUISITES:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or additional technical/business experience to provide equivalency.
  • Minimum 5 years Human Resources experience to include past experience in employee benefits and/or total rewards.
  • Must have experience working with an HRIS system, preferably Kronos.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws as they pertain to benefits and Human Resources.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • PC/Computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Previous work experience in both union and non-union work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, but also collaboratively with other team members.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
  • Answer employee questions and concerns regarding benefit plans.
  • Promote understanding and effective utilization of VMC's benefits plans.
  • Promote understanding of VMC's human resources policies and procedures as they relate to benefits.
  • Plan, execute and lead annual benefits open enrollment activities to include coordination of HRIS system updates, communications, and audits.
  • Lead employee benefits briefings during new hire orientation staff and providers.
  • Administer the VMC employees' retirement plans with plan custodian and other contracted vendors. (Legacy Pension plan / 403(b) plan).
  • Completes data file uploads to third party benefits vendors such as 403b data and short-term disability data from HRIS system.
  • Generate, review and submit annual Federal Tax compliance reports.
  • Reconcile and audit all benefit plan billing and submit for payment to benefit vendors.
  • Create, audit and maintain all HR records related to employee benefit plans.
  • Create and maintain all eligibility and plan enrollments and coordinate with carriers.
  • Completes HRIS edits and audit benefits prior to payroll processing.
  • Participates and assists as needed in the administration of organization wellness programs as related to employee benefits.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
