Blood Bank Technologist

Job Summary:

The Blood Bank Technologist is responsible for performing all technical functions related to the collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution of blood and blood components. The role ensures compliance with established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to provide safe blood products for patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform blood grouping, cross-matching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
• Ensure proper collection, labeling, storage, and documentation of blood and blood components.
• Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of blood and blood products.
• Adhere to infection control, biosafety, and quality assurance protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain blood bank equipment and instruments.
• Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Prepare reports for internal audits and inspections.
• Maintain strict compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory authorities.
• Provide technical assistance during blood transfusions when required.
• Train and guide junior staff/trainees in blood bank procedures.
• Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per safety protocols.
