EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to serve as a Budget Analyst II within the Financial Services Division. This role is vital in ensuring that state financial resources are utilized effectively and efficiently while maintaining full compliance with all statutes, fiscal rules, and Department
policies.As a Budget Analyst II, you will be responsible for organizing, interpreting, and reporting financial data for assigned divisions across the Department. You will use your excellent communication skills to relay complex financial information in an understandable way to a variety of audiences. Additionally, you will leverage your proficiency in financial systems and Excel to manage complex spreadsheets and models when gathering, organizing, and analyzing critical financial data. If you are looking for a career opportunity to support the fiscal integrity of the State of Colorado, this position is for you!What You'll Do: Develop, analyze, and monitor personal services, operating, and program-specific expenditure budgets for assigned divisions to ensure fiscal health.Regularly pull financial data from the CORE system to balance year-to-date actual expenditures and revenues against divisional reports.Reconcile payroll reports to track the status of staffing plans, vacancy rates, and year-to-date growth or slippage.Gather internal and external data to create three- to five-year forecasts for revenues, fees, and cash fund balances.Collaborate with division leadership to create annual budget planning documents and financial models that align with strategic
goals.Compare actual financial results against forecasts to identify, investigate, and explain significant variances.Assist in the production and validation of budget change requests, including decision items, supplemental requests, and budget amendments.Update and maintain complex financial models to project monthly, quarterly, and annual costs based on historical
trends.Work with various business units to provide timely budget approval for invoices and requisitions while ensuring compliance with fiscal rules.Conduct rapid-response, non-standard financial analysis to answer unanticipated business questions from division directors or the Budget Manager.
