ACCEL Schools is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as the Career Tech Education Instructional Designer. We are seeking professionals that prioritize student learning, life skills, career-based interventions, and career development. ACCEL Schools uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods.

Position Summary

The Career Tech Education Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing high-quality Career Technical Education (CTE) courses that align with national standards, industry-recognized credentials, and workforce needs. This role partners with subject matter experts (SMEs), teachers, and school leaders to create engaging, standards-aligned curriculum that prepares students for college, careers, and industry certifications. The Instructional Designer ensures that all courses are learner-centered, accessible, and optimized for both online and blended learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

Course & Curriculum Design

  • Develop CTE course syllabi, scope and sequences, unit plans, and assessments aligned to state and federal standards.
  • Integrate industry credentials opportunities where appropriate.
  • Ensure courses align with labor market demand and approved pathways

Course Development & LMS Design

  • Build complete CTE courses in Canvas (or other LMS) using pre-developed lesson content, assignments, and assessments.
  • Code and format course pages using HTML/CSS to ensure a professional, branded, and student-friendly appearance.
  • Integrate multimedia elements, links, simulations, and interactive components to enhance learner engagement.
  • Apply consistent structure, design templates, and accessibility standards across all modules and lessons.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LMS functionality issues to maintain seamless user experience.

Content Development

  • Build engaging instructional materials, including lesson plans, digital modules, assessments, projects, and labs.
  • Develop resources for Canvas (or other LMS) with multimedia, interactive tools, and project-based learning.
  • Create teacher guides, pacing guides, and professional learning resources to support successful implementation.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Conduct thorough testing of courses for broken links, navigation errors, accessibility compliance (ADA/UDL), and design consistency.
  • Maintain alignment to state CTE standards, Perkins V expectations, and approved pathway structures.
  • Ensure courses meet internal brand and instructional design quality standards across all programs.
  • Track and manage course build documentation, file organization, and version control.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Collect and analyze feedback from teachers, students, and administrators.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and implement revisions based on feedback or compliance updates.
  • Revise and improve course content based on student performance data and industry changes.
  • Stay current with CTE trends, technology, and workforce needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field required; Master's preferred.
  • Experience building or managing courses in an LMS (Canvas preferred); knowledge of HTML and CSS strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with National CTE standards, Perkins V requirements, and industry credential integration strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with LMS platforms (Canvas, Google Classroom, etc.) and digital content tools.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple builds across a 2–3 year roadmap.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and writing skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience designing CTE courses in areas such as Business, IT, Health, Construction, Aviation, or Education pathways.
  • Experience working with pre-developed instructional content and transforming it into engaging, digital-ready lessons.
  • Knowledge of accessibility compliance standards and universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Ability to integrate real-world projects, work-based learning, and industry credentials into courses.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
