Position Summary:
POI Aviation is looking for a Cargo Agent to join our Cargo Operations team. In this hands-on role, you’ll handle inbound and outbound cargo and baggage, operate ground support equipment, and help ensure shipments are moved safely, accurately, and on time for our airline partners and customers.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to perform with or without accommodation:
- Prepare and process documents for outbound, inbound, and transfer cargo, including securing cargo documents from flights and filing movement records as required.
- Handle and accept cargo in accordance with IATA, FAA, TSA, local airport, airline, and company regulations, ensuring security and safety of baggage and cargo in each cargo aircraft compartment.
- Coordinate cargo build-up for outbound shipments and breakdown/re-build of inbound cargo, ensuring cargo is built up and broken down expeditiously and according to load instructions.
- Release inbound cargo to consignees after customs and quarantine clearance and gather accurate weight information for built-up cargo for final acceptance.
- Operate ground support equipment to load and off-load baggage and cargo to and from aircraft for both commercial and freight operations, following all safety procedures.
- Inspect equipment prior to flight operations, promptly reporting any defects to GSE Mechanics, and operate equipment used in servicing aircraft such as loaders, tow tugs, conveyor trucks, potable water trucks, lavatory service trucks, and baggage tractors.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the cargo warehouse and surrounding areas.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the job or for skill development.
Qualifications
Education
- A high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a related operational field, such as cargo handling, warehouse operations, ramp services, logistics, or similar environments.
Skills & competencies
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and other specialized cargo equipment, with a willingness to learn and master additional tools as needed for cargo servicing operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills combined with basic computer proficiency, including typing and familiarity with common applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment and supporting a respectful, safety-focused culture.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to changes necessary for achieving the organization’s objectives, including new procedures, schedules, and operational requirements
- Role requires handling luggage weighing up to 70 lbs., with assistance or reasonable accommodation available as needed to support passenger and baggage services.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for operating company vehicles and equipment.
