Key Responsibilities / Duties
Some sample duties you can include:
- Design, simulate, and optimise chemical processes (mass & energy balances, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics)
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (PIDs), and layouts
- Prepare equipment specifications, select suitable process equipment
- Conduct process modeling, simulation, and data analysis
- Monitor, control, and troubleshoot production processes and equipment
- Implement process improvements to increase yield, reduce cost, waste, or energy consumption
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment (SHE / HSE) standards
- Perform risk assessments, HAZOP, FMEA, safety reviews
- Oversee pilot plant operations, scale‑up, and technology transfers
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and suppliers for procurement, equipment, and materials
- Generate technical reports, present findings, and coordinate with stakeholders
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams
- Train staff on process changes, standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Qualifications & Requirements Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline (required)
- A Master’s degree is a plus (especially for R&D or senior roles)
- Professional engineering license / certification (if applicable in your region) is an advantage
Experience
- 8 to 10 years of relevant industry experience
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals
- Process simulation tools
- Proficiency in equipment design and specification (reactors, heat exchanges, pumps, distillation, separation units)
- Understanding of instrumentation, control systems, automation
- Experience with CAD tools, P&ID drawing, layout software
- Data analysis skills (Excel,Python, statistical methods)
- Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
- Ability to perform risk assessments
- Project management capabilities
